That template contains a 40 GB disk with a 40GB Macintosh HD partition. That's because Fusion copies a "template" disk into a newly created macOS virtual disk when creating a new VM. You'll notice that the disk contains 1 partition of 40GB with the remainder of the disk empty. The dialog will now reflect how the disk is partitioned: The reason why is a longer discussion than I want to get into right now.Īfter you click on the virtual disk, the panel to the right will appear with several options. It should reflect a size that's slightly larger than what you specified in the resize disk operation. When Disk Utility starts, click on the VMware Virtual disk that contains the Macintosh HD volume. When you see the main installation utilities menu, select "Disk Utility" and click "Continue". Power on the virtual machine and wait for the Mac OS X Lion installer to boot. That's the clue on what we need to do next. Click "Apply" and note the warning about using operating system's tools to resize the partitions in the virtual machine. At this point, resize the "Hard Disk (SATA)" virtual disk to the size you desire from the default of 40GB. The settings will now open after the VM is saved. In the "Finish" dialog, click "Customize Settings". In the Create a new virtual machine dialog, drag and drop the Install Mac OS X Lion.app to the dialog. In the Fusion menu bar, select File > New. I have a copy of the "Install Mac OS X Lion.app" installer. You might be able to do this after installing Lion, but it makes more sense to set the disk size the way you want it before installing Lion. The easiest way to do this is to start over and resize the disk before you install macOS. Final Hurdle: How do I reset Macintosh HD capacity to allow Migration Assistant data transfer? In VM > Settings > Hard Drive I allocated 644MB. Now - Migration Assistant cannot load files as Fusion 13 created a default disk ‘Macintosh HD’ which only has 42.61GB allocated and 460GB is required. Is this caused by the presence of Hypervisor even though switched off?ģ. Drive Icon does appear on Ventura desktop. At connection time I chose ‘connect to VM’ but no drive icon appeared in Guest Lion desktop. Note: I also tried os 10.7.5 connected via powered external USB 2.0 LaCie drive. That may answer Dempson’s Networking concern.ĭempson, I did try to load an iso clone of entire bootable Lion system but Fusion 13 drag and drop would not accept it. I noted Fusion 13 VM > Settings > Processors runs with Hypervisor off unless ticked for enable. Migration Assistant is now working, registering and connecting 2019 iMac via Ethernet to 2007 iMac with Bridged Network set to Auto. This also enables me to by-pass all the Fusion 12 issues on Catalina.Ģ. I have now reloaded Fusion 13 on a SATA boot disk Ventura 13.6.1 and installed Lion 10.7.5 correctly thanks to Technogeezer. which Fusion automatically ran as Bus type SATA. I loaded Fusion 13 on NVME boot drive Ventura 13.6.1. Under VM > Settings > Hard drive Bus type options are IDE, SCSI, SATA NVME but only SCSI and SATA are active in free basic version of Fusion 13. I also scrutinised Fusion 13 Settings and found clues to my installation problems which I would like to share and receive your views.ġ. Over Christmas the GPU in my 2011 iMac failed - again - and I cannibalised two 2007 iMacs and got OS 10.7.5 running smoothly on one of them. Is this a limitation caused by the free, basic application? Any idea’s will be appreciated.ĭear patient contributors, Happy New year and thanks to all your valuable assistance. Decided to refit the garden shed while I waited for USB 2.0 to operate but not such luck, it is still spinning! Garden shed is completed. Technogeezer asked me to check VMware USB settings which I found at 2.0. (I have detached all external drives for this exercise). I run Migration Assistant from Guest Lion but Migration Assistant can find nothing. I also open Migration Assistant on 2007 iMac, set "To another Mac". So I connected 2007 iMac to 2019 iMac via ethernet and open file sharing on both computers. I assume Migration assistant wants a Mac attached. Finder has external disk ticked in preferences for visibility along with HDD and iMacs etc. No external drive icon on Guest Lion desktop. I go ahead and click import and that is the end of the process. I have external drives visible on Host desktop but Fusion 13 window identifies the external drive 'Lion (ASMedia ASM1156-PM)' offering me the option of importing to Host or Guest then states "unable to connect to its ideal host controller.” I am warned connection may make MVware unstable. When I open Migration assistant from within MVware Guest Account Lion, Migration Assistant is not able to find any servers/drives/files. I have OSX lion set up and running in MVware Fusion 13 on a 2019 Intel iMac.Ĭan anyone explain how I use Migration Assistant and to import settings, files and apps from 2007 iMac into the Guest VMware Lion
